Welcome to Soulmanac! I’m thrilled that you’re here. Thank you so much for being willing to come along on this journey with me. I’m so excited to see where the adventure takes us…
Most of these letters will be short(ish) as I want to write regularly and without too much overthinking. I have a hangover from my days in academia and tend to spend far too long drafting and redrafting. I’m hoping that sharing fewer words more frequently might help me find a more playful approach and break me free from my tendency to spend an excessive amount of time crafting every single sentence I write.
That said, it feels appropriate that this first letter be a lengthier one as I want to be really clear about my intentions for this twelve month journey we’re beginning together. I hope this will give you a better idea of the direction in which we’re headed. Even though I’m excited to allow our journey to be meandering, I still want you to feel that we are on the road…somewhere. Sharing my intentions will also give me a compass to refer back to if and when I begin to feel aimless.
Let’s begin with my overarching intentions for this whole project.
I have three:
To explore seasonal living with my family through our ordinary, everyday life.
To share our experiences as well as my noticings, questions and wonderings as I reflect on seasonal living as a spiritual practice.
To support you in your own exploration of seasonal living.
I’ve listed them separately but in my mind they are part of a single flow. My hope is that by seeking out scrappy ways to live in alignment with the seasons, I will also find greater alignment with the Divine’s movement in our lives and that my sharing of this exploration might spark some curiosity in you and/or encourage you as you forge your own journey’s path.
And let me say, right now, at the beginning of our time together, that it’s ok if you live in a different country, have a different gender identity or family structure, hold another set of beliefs, or are living through a very different season of life. In fact, it’s more than ok. Nature is constantly reminding us that diversity is a sign of health and I want you to celebrate what makes you and your experience of this journey unique. I’ll be writing about my family and our shared experience of seasonal living because that is my lived experience and the only place I can begin but I don’t mean for any of what I share to be prescriptive and I certainly hope it doesn’t block you in finding your own ways to explore seasonal living. Take from these letters what is useful and nourishing for you and ignore the rest (or save it for another time)! Your difference is a gift and, if you are willing to share some of yourself and your journey with the rest of this community of readers, you will greatly enhance the experience for us all.
That’s mostly what I want you to know as we begin this experiment. I have, though, wondered what you might want to know before we go any further together. You can tell me in the comments if there is anything in particular you’d like me to explain but, since I’ll be sharing from my experience, I thought it would be a good idea to introduce myself a bit and contextualise how I’m beginning my journey. I also thought it might be wise to flesh out those overarching intentions, in particular, how I’m intending to live in rhythm with the seasons.
